Derila Complaints (2026): What Actually Goes Wrong After You Order, and How to Fix Each One

Most Derila buyers never have a problem. The brand sits at 4.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot across more than 46,000 reviews, which is a perfectly ordinary score for a direct-to-consumer product (we last checked that figure on 11 October 2026; Amazon listings reportedly run a little lower, around 3.8). But “most people are fine” is no use to you if you are the one chasing a refund.

So this page does something different from a review. It lists the five things that actually go wrong with a Derila order, and tells you exactly how to avoid or fix each one. Every policy detail below was read directly off Derila’s own shipping and returns pages on 4 November 2026. We have not tested the pillow ourselves, and we earn a commission if you buy through our links — which is precisely why we would rather you knew the failure modes before you spend anything than request a refund afterwards.

If your question is whether the company is real at all rather than what happens after you order, that is a different page: is Derila a scam?

The short version

Ranked by how often they catch people out, and how much they cost you:

  1. Refunds refused for a paperwork reason — the single most expensive mistake, and completely avoidable.
  2. Shipping cost people did not expect — Derila does not offer free shipping.
  3. Delivery slower than assumed — budget around three weeks, not three days.
  4. It feels wrong on the first few nights — usually the break-in period, not a fault.
  5. It is the wrong pillow for how you sleep — a real mismatch that no amount of patience fixes.

1. “They refused my refund”

This is the complaint that costs real money, and almost every version of it traces back to the same thing: Derila will not process a return that arrives without a Return Merchandise Authorisation form. Their policy says so plainly — returns sent without first completing an RMA “can not be processed.”

People post the pillow back the moment they decide they do not want it, assuming the 60-day guarantee is the only hurdle. It is not. The order of operations matters more than the deadline.

What their published policy actually requires, in sequence:

  • Contact customer service first, inside the 60 days, with your full name, email, order number and reason. They say they reply within 3 business days.
  • Wait for the RMA form and fill it in. Attach it visibly to the outside of the parcel.
  • Send it to the address on the RMA form — not the address the parcel arrived from.
  • Use a tracked service. Their policy states returns without tracking numbers “might be refused by our warehouse.”
  • Add the tracking number and carrier back into the RMA form.
  • Pack it properly. Non-defective items must come back in manufacturer’s condition in the original, undamaged packaging. If the item is genuinely faulty, contact support before arranging anything.

The fix: do not post anything until you are holding an RMA number. Keep the original box until you are certain you are keeping the pillow. We have a fuller breakdown of the edge cases on our Derila return policy page.

2. “I thought shipping was free”

It is not, and this catches people repeatedly. Derila charges shipping and handling, calculated at checkout and shown before you confirm the order. There is no free-shipping tier that we have seen, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.

Two further details worth knowing before you click:

  • Customs and import charges, where they apply, are payable by you, not by Derila. That matters outside the US.
  • Multi-pillow orders spread the shipping cost. The pack pricing — $59.99 for one, $99.98 for two ($49.99 each), $149.96 for four ($37.49 each, verified 3 November 2026) — already makes the larger packs cheaper per pillow, and you pay one delivery charge rather than several.

The fix: read the total at checkout, not the headline price. If you are buying for a couple or want a spare, the two-pack is where the per-pillow economics turn.

3. “It took forever to arrive”

Derila’s own published figures, as of 4 November 2026:

  • Processing: typically 1–2 business days, longer around holidays and promotions.
  • Delivery: approximately 4–14 business days.

Stack those and the realistic outer edge is around 16 business days — roughly three calendar weeks from clicking buy to opening the box. And read this carefully, because it is the part that generates the angry reviews: Derila states these timelines are “provided for illustrative purposes only and do not constitute a guaranteed delivery.” They are an estimate, not a promise, and customs or carrier handovers can stretch them.

The fix: do not order one as a gift for a specific date. And start counting your 60-day return window from the day it arrives, not the day you ordered — the policy runs from receipt, which works in your favour here.

4. “It felt worse, not better”

A firm contoured pillow at a fixed height feels wrong to a neck that has spent years collapsing into something soft. That first-week discomfort is the most common negative first impression of the Derila, and for most people it is the break-in period rather than a defect.

The honest caveat: “give it time” is also exactly what someone would say if the pillow were simply wrong for you. The difference usually shows by the end of the second week — improving is break-in, unchanged or worsening is a mismatch. We set out what each stage should feel like in our Derila break-in timeline.

The fix: give it two full weeks before judging, and diarise day 45. That leaves you a fortnight of slack inside the 60-day window to start an RMA if it has not come good.

5. “It is the wrong shape for me”

This is the complaint that is not really a complaint — the product is working as designed, just not for that person. The Derila Ergo has a 9cm centre with 12cm wings in medium-firm memory foam. That geometry is built for back and side sleepers: a lower middle for lying on your back, raised edges to fill the gap between shoulder and ear on your side.

It is a poor fit if:

  • You sleep on your stomach. Almost any contoured pillow pushes a stomach sleeper’s head back into extension. This is not the pillow for you.
  • Your main problem is hip pain. A neck pillow does not address hip alignment; a knee pillow does more.
  • You need an adjustable loft. The Derila height is fixed. If your measurements sit outside its range, no break-in period will change that.

The fix: check the geometry against how you actually sleep before ordering. Our pillow height calculator takes about a minute, and if the answer points away from the Derila we have alternatives that fit other measurements.

What a refund actually costs you

Worth knowing before you order, because the two tiers are not equivalent and almost nobody reads this far into a returns page:

  • If you start the return within 14 days of receiving it: you get the product price and your original delivery fee back. You still pay return postage, and that is never refunded. Express or other non-standard delivery upgrades are not refunded either.
  • If you start it after 14 days but within 60: you get the product price only. Your original delivery fee is gone. You still pay return postage.

Then the clock: once they receive and inspect the parcel, they issue the refund within 14 days, and it takes a further 3–5 business days to appear on your statement, back to the card you paid with.

Add it together and a worst-case round trip — slow delivery, two weeks of testing, a tracked return, inspection, bank settlement — can run close to two months with you out of pocket for postage both ways. That is not a scandal; it is how direct-to-consumer returns work. It is just worth knowing before you treat a 60-day guarantee as a risk-free trial.

One more limit: the 60-day policy covers purchases made on Derila’s own site only. Buy a “Derila” from a marketplace seller and you are subject to that seller’s policy instead, which Derila explicitly says it does not control.

Frequently asked

Is Derila a scam?

No. It is a real company shipping a real product with a published returns process, and a 4.1/5 Trustpilot average across 46,000-plus reviews as of 11 October 2026. The complaints above are friction, not fraud. We go into the question properly on our is Derila a scam page.

Can I get a refund if I have slept on it?

The policy requires non-defective items to come back in manufacturer’s condition in the original undamaged packaging. A used pillow is a judgement call by their warehouse on inspection, which is a risk you carry. Contact support and ask before you assume either way.

How long do I actually have?

Sixty days from receiving the product, not from ordering it. But the better deadline is day 14, because that is when your original delivery fee stops being refundable.

What is the single biggest mistake?

Posting the pillow back without an RMA form. Those returns are not processed, and you will have paid postage for nothing.

Does it work for neck pain?

For some people, if a height mismatch was the cause. It is a pillow, not a medical device, and it will not treat an underlying condition. Persistent neck pain, numbness or pain radiating down an arm needs a doctor rather than a new pillow.

The bottom line

None of the five complaints above is a reason not to buy a Derila. Four of them are solved by knowing one fact in advance — that shipping costs money, that delivery takes weeks, that the first week feels odd, and that returns need an RMA before they need a postage stamp. The fifth, the wrong shape for your sleeping position, is solved by spending a minute on the measurements first.

If the geometry matches how you sleep, the sensible order is the two-pack: better per-pillow pricing, one shipping charge, and a spare if the first one suits you.
